Silver Creek Writers Residency offers emerging and early-career writers of diverse genres the opportunity for independent and inspired work while staying in beautiful Ketchum/Sun Valley, Idaho—the resting place of Ernest Hemingway and haunt of Hollywood legends. Residencies are seasonal and by application.

Bill holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Ohio State University where he also taught fiction workshops, composition, and literature. His work has been published in several publications, and his writing earned fellowships from Vermont Studio Center and Ohio State University. He has been a certified public account for twenty years and owns the tax and consulting practice of Fowler & Associates, LLC in Ketchum, Idaho. He formed Silver Creek Writers’ Residency, Inc. in 2014.

Jill Lear is a professional painter with numerous solo exhibitions and awards. Her work is in the Wright State University Art Gallery Collection and the Philip Isles collection in New York and has appeared in the books “Speak for the Trees” and “Green Art: Trees, Leaves, and Roots.” Her book “Historic Trees of Texas” is forthcoming in 2014. Jill lives in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Perrin is Creative Director at Rubin, Postaer and Associates, an advertising agency in Santa Monica, CA. He is the creator of The Listening Cloud. He is a native of Ketchum, Idaho and a resident of Santa Monica.

John Rember is a fourth-generation Idahoan. His latest short story collection is Sudden Death, Over Time (Wordcraft of Oregon: 2012). Other works include: MFA in a Box: A Why to Write Book (Dream of Things: 2010), which includes stories and advice on writing. John’s memoir Traplines: Coming Home to Sawtooth Valley (Pantheon: 2003; Vintage: 2004) was named the 2003 Idaho Book of the Year by the Idaho Library Association. He has two other collections of short stories, Cheerleaders from Gomorrah: Tales from the Lycra Archipelago (Confluence: 1994) and Coyote in the Mountains (Limberlost: 1989), as well as numerous articles and columns in magazines and newspapers, including Travel and Leisure, Wildlife Conservation, High Desert Journal, and The Huffington Post. He was a professor of writing for many years, most recently as a core faculty member of the Pacific University MFA program (Forest Grove, Oregon). He is Writer-at-Large at The College of Idaho in Caldwell.

Alan Heathcock’s VOLT was a “Best Book” selection from numerous newspapers and magazines, including GQ, Publishers Weekly, Salon, the Chicago Tribune, and Cleveland Plain Dealer. It was named as a New York Times Editors’ Choice, selected as a Barnes and Noble Best Book of the Month, as well as a finalist for the Barnes and Noble Discover Prize. Heathcock has won a Whiting Award, the GLCA New Writers Award, a National Magazine Award, has been awarded fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, the Lannan Foundation, and the Idaho Commission on the Arts. A native of Chicago, he lives and works in Boise, Idaho.

Christopher Coake is the author of YOU CAME BACK (Grand Central Publishing, June 2012) as well as the collection of short stories WE’RE IN TROUBLE (Harcourt 2005), which won the PEN/Robert Bingham Fellowship. In addition, Coake was listed among “Granta’s Best of Young American Novelists” in 2007. His stories have been published in several literary journals, and anthologized in BEST AMERICAN MYSTERY STORIES 2004 and THE BEST AMERICAN NOIR OF THE CENTURY. A native Hoosier, he received his M.F.A. in fiction from Ohio State University. He and his wife Stephanie Lauer live in Reno, where Coake is a professor of English at the University of Nevada.

Kim Frank is a fiction writer and the editor of SVPN, a lifestyle, arts, and property magazine in Sun Valley. She is a 2014 Idaho Literature Fellow with an MFA from the Warren Wilson Program for Writers and an MSW from the University of Pennsylvania. A 2013 UCross Artist Residency Fellow, Kim’s work is published in Blackbird, Drunken Boat, Every Day a Century, Colorado Review, and monthly in SVPN. She was co-writer and editor for the short film, “Goddess of the Yangtze,” a 2014 Columbia Gorge International Film Festival documentary pick. Currently, she is working on a novel set in China. Kim teaches classes and workshops and mentors writers through individual creative writing coaching sessions. Originally from Ocean City, New Jersey, she lives in Sun Valley with her family and two dogs.

Matthew Scott Healy’s fiction and interviews have appeared in various literary journals. He has won the Finley Award for Humorous Writing and has earned nominations for Story South’s Best Story of 2012 and Best American New Voices. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Ohio State University and teaches creative writing at Scottsdale Community College.

Eileen Shields holds an MFA from UCR-PD. She is a member of the Writers Guild of America, and 826LA, an organization that promotes literacy in Los Angeles schools. She currently works in marketing for Dzanc books. Her recent essays appear in Los Angeles Review, Rumpus, Alimentum, The Toast and Slice. Although her primary residence is Los Angeles, Eileen and her husband like to say their hearts live in Sun Valley, where they have maintained a second home for nearly twenty years.
